The Sumisansui Sumi Soaker is a Japanese-engineered irrigation system designed specifically for market gardeners, nurseries, and small-scale farms.
Unlike traditional sprinklers that create dry spots and uneven coverage, the Sumi Soaker delivers a soft, uniform rectangular spray pattern that matches your bed layout — giving every plant the right amount of water with very little waste.
Made from UV-stabilized polyethylene with a 21-mil wall thickness, these systems are built to last 10+ seasons in real field conditions. Each 328-foot roll can be cut to any length, so you can customize your setup to fit beds of any size. No complex plumbing and no expensive infrastructure — connect to your water source and grow.
Which model is right for you: R-Wide or Mark II?
We carry two models, and choosing between them comes down to three things: the water pressure you have, the water volume (flow) your source can deliver, and where you're growing.
The Sumi Soaker R-Wide is the open-field workhorse. It operates at up to 30 PSI and sprays a low, wide pattern up to 33 feet across — enough to cover eight 30-inch beds from a single line down the center path. That reach means fewer irrigation lines and less hardware on large blocks. The trade-off is that it needs real pressure (roughly 15–30 PSI at the bed) and a healthy flow rate of about 12.7 GPM per 100 feet, so it's best suited to farms with a strong water supply.
Choose the R-Wide if you're irrigating open field beds, have good pressure and flow, want maximum coverage from fewer lines, and grow mostly low-profile crops like greens, roots, and alliums.
The Sumi Soaker Mark II is the low-pressure specialist. It runs at just 11.6 PSI — and will operate on as little as 3 PSI — with a steeper 80° spray angle that throws water up and over rather than wide. It covers about 13 feet and sips water at roughly 3.6 GPM per 100 feet, so it runs comfortably off a garden hose at almost any length, or off a gravity-fed tank. The steeper angle and tighter footprint make it the right choice in confined spaces and for watering around taller, established crops.
Choose the Mark II if you're growing in a greenhouse or high tunnel, have low water pressure or limited flow, or need to irrigate around taller crops.
Both models deliver gentle, rainfall-like coverage that won't wash out freshly seeded beds or damage delicate transplants. If you're not sure which fits your setup, the Water Supply Check helps you measure your pressure and flow, and the System Planner sizes your tubing and fittings. Whether you're setting up a new market garden or upgrading from drip tape and overhead sprinklers, the Sumi Soaker system streamlines your irrigation while improving crop quality across the board. All Sumisansui Sumi Soaker tubing is made by Sumika Agritech in Japan.
