Sumi Soaker: Your Beds Are Rectangles. So Is the Spray.
Sprinklers water in circles β wasted water in the pathways, dry corners the circle never reaches. The Sumi Soaker (Sumisansui) lays down a wide, even rectangle of spray that matches the shape of a growing bed, so coverage stays consistent from edge to edge. Whether you're running 20 beds or 200, it sets up fast, rolls up clean, and goes back to work season after season.
Sumi Soaker (Sumisansui): Overhead Irrigation for Small Farms

from 427 reviewsI just finished building out a small urban farm and wanted to give Sumi Soakers a try after hearing about them from a farmer friend. I bought the R-wide version for general use as it will water whole sections of the farm when something other than drip is needed. I bought the Mark II specifically for permanent use in a small tunnel, which I am using for succession seeding of greens and carrots. I installed this running right down the middle of the pathway and it's set to water a couple times per day, which has resulted in excellent germination so far. Very excited about this.
I got R-wide to irrigate our field. It is easy to use. One person can move it, which is super great. Love the fact that the end stopper is adjustable so I can water beds with different lengths.
I have found InsectaNet to work very well to exclude flea beetles and other pests on my salad greens. Also using it this season to keep leek moths off my onion crop.
It took a little while to get it dialed in, but I've been using the SUMI on the "Back 40" where typical overhead fails because of low pressure. We've used drip back there in the past, but it's not great for germination of root crops. The SUMI has solved this problem as we can let it run for an hour to get close to a half inch of even coverage. Gamechanger!
Pro-tip: I fixed mine to a reel that you keep an extension cord on so that I can easily reel it up and move it around the garden to whatever needs a soak. Makes the process quick and easy.
Keep these up daily on late winter thru late fall. Adds great protection for several crops from light frost, heavy dew, local farm life and insects.
First season using them and getting excellent germination on my spring root crops!
The sumi is a game changer on my farm, so versatile and easy to set up and move around, no dead spots, no worries! Highly recommend!
Great chains, shipped promptly, best price I can find for 25 chains.
Super easy to set up and provides even coverage on our taller crops - able to irrigate our cover crops with this.
We bought one 50 foot section to test the Sumi Soaker versus 4 wobblers in a 50β x 50β field block and OMG it works so much better, saturating all 4 corners of the field. It does struggle getting over crops that are over 3β but will be a great addition to use to establish crops and help facilitate germination of our direct seeded crops.
We are a spring fed farm but are limited to the volume of our cisterns therefore we have to be careful of how much water we use.
Iβve done a little strategic organizing our our 4 field blocks to be able to switch between different irrigation methods depending on the timing. So planting out one block at a time, Sumi, then wobblers when they get too tall.
Love it!
Weβve been using the Sumi Soaker in our market garden, and it has completely replaced both wobblers and traditional drip lines for us. The difference has been significant.
What stands out most is how evenly it distributes water. Weβre getting much more consistent soil moisture across our beds, which has noticeably improved germination rates and overall crop success. Seeds are coming up more uniformly, and weβre seeing stronger early growth.
Itβs also helped us cut back on water use. Thereβs far less runoff and overspray compared to wobblers, and weβre not dealing with the inconsistency or clogging issues we used to see with drip systems. It feels like weβre putting water exactly where itβs neededβand only where itβs needed.
Beyond the performance, itβs simplified our setup. Fewer adjustments, less monitoring, and more confidence that irrigation is doing what it should.
Overall, the Sumi Soaker has been a major upgrade for our operation. Itβs improved efficiency, saved water, and directly contributed to better crop outcomes.
We already have wobbler sprinklers on our blocks, but the newly seeded or transplanted beds need more water than the more established beds. We transplant and seed into 5 bed blocks in a 20 bed watering zone, and use the Sumi Soakers for the first three weeks, and then remove and let the wobblers work from then on. The Sumi Soakers then move to the newer beds. Things are going well, so far.
this irrigation system has solved all of my issues with overhead irrigation on my small farm. gone are the days of uneven watering, watering weeds, easy to set up. easy to move. perfect germ. don't forget to buy the manifold for each line you'll need. sure you can make a manifold and save $6 but just get the one the sell here it even has a valve
Sumi-soaker is the easiest way to flawlessly water my garden. Unroll, connect, water. I can control the width of the pattern simply by closing the water valve until I get the width I need.
